HIGH GEAR/OCTOBER 1977
CENTER UPDATE
by Stan Kawecki
At present, the center mainly houses the hotiine and acts as a meeting place for various groups. The hotline is manned from 6:00 to 11:00 on weekdays, and 5:00 to 10:00 on weekends. It normally handles calls on such things as V.D. information, general info on Cleveland's social scene, referral for gay-related themes, crisis intervention, or just to be there if you need someone to talk to. If there is
anything you feel they can help you with, call them at 321-6632.
The present weekly schedule at the Center is:
Monday Women's night, providing a drop-in rap group at 8:00, and informal counseling if you need to talk to another woman. Special events oriented for women may be found out about by calling the Center on Monday.
Tuesday An open night, usually used for meetings.
Wednesday and Thursday Usually reserved for counseling. Any man or woman who feels the need to talk with a counselor should call the hotline to make an appointment.
PRISONER ART IN COLUMBUS
The Columbus Institute for Contemporary Arts (CIFCA) announces the first annual gallery exhibit of prison art in Ohio. Opening with refreshments and music on October 12, 1977, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the exhibit will hang until October 31. The work was organized by Hospital Audiences Incorporated and is comprised of selected works from correctional institutions across central Ohio. The gallery is located at 78 East Chestnut
Friday The men's rap group. If there is anything you would like to talk about, or just to be with other gays in a relaxed atmosphere, stop by at 8:00 and
join in.
Saturday and Sunday Open days, without any scheduled
events.
The Center may begin to realize some potential now that it is under the control of the recently established Community Center Committee. This is composed of seven people who will try their best to make the Center an active part of the community.
The Center is located at 2795 Euclid Heights Blvd., right at the intersection of Coventry and Euclid Heights. Our doorway is next to Coventryard and we are on the third floor. If you are in the Coventry area some evening, stop up and see who's there. The Center is there for the use of the gay community. A recently scheduled weekend trip to Toronto and a visit to a performance of the Cleveland Ballet were cancelled
because of lack of interest.
